What is Hastelloy and what are its main uses?
Hastelloy (HASTELLOY) nickel-based alloy Hastelloy is nickel-molybdenum, nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy. The early (Ni60-Mo19-Fe20) Hastelloy A solved the problem of hydrochloric acid corrosion resistance in the field of corrosion-resistant alloys. But it can only be used for hydrochloric acid corrosion below 70℃. Hastelloy B (0Ni65Mo28Fe5) and Hastelloy B2 (00Ni70M028) developed by appropriately increasing molybdenum and reducing iron can be used for any concentration of hydrochloric acid at boiling temperature, even in sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid. Hastelloy B2 is superior to Hastelloy B due to its ultra-low carbon content. Hastelloy B3 is an added grade with better thermal stability than B2. It also has excellent resistance to corrosion by hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, acetic acid, phosphoric acid and other non-oxidizing environments. Hastelloy A, B, B2 Ni-Mo alloy has good corrosion resistance in hydrochloric acid, but in the medium with oxygen or oxidant, the corrosion resistance is significantly reduced. Intergranular corrosion occurs through chemical conversion, reducing carbon, silicon and iron, and adding tungsten, vanadium and niobium can improve the resistance to intergranular corrosion in hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid.
